Skills focussed:
MARKING (THROWER): Force (4.1.2), Pressure Thrower (4.1.3), Footblocks (4.1.5), Strategic Marking skills (4.1.6)
Concepts to know before doing the drill:
- Basic marking technique & infractions
- Concept of force
- Basic catching and throwing
Drill Focus:
Set-up:
- 4 players: 3 throwers + 1 marker
- Throwers form a triangle with 10–15 meters between them.
- Throws move clockwise initially." "Drill-Flow:
- Throwers pass the disc around the triangle.
- After each throw, the marker sprints to cut off the most dangerous lane (run 2), then closes in to set up the mark (run 3).
- The marker stays in for 4 throws, then rotates out.
- The thrower who just passed becomes the next marker.
- After half the drill, switch to counter-clockwise passing to train both sides.
Coaching points:
- Emphasize cutting off the lane first, not charging directly at the thrower.
- Keep reinforcing proper marking stance and footwork: Stay low, on toes, and be ready to shift quickly.
- Remind players to communicate force direction.
