Other Skills For which it can be used:
This drill can be used to teach all the other variations of BH & FH, throw types and catch types by varying the distance between the participants"
Drill Focus:
-Throwing: Grip, swing, wrist position, angle
-Catching: Basic stance for catching
Set-up:
- Players pair up, one disc per pair.
- Cones placed in two parallel lines, with each cone 10–12 meters apart.
- Pairs stand at cones facing each other.
Drill-Flow:
- Players practice the backhand throw to their partner, focusing on technique.
- Encourage stepping sideways (not forward) to simulate throwing around a defender.
- Partners use pancake catch to receive throws.
- Repeat the same set-up and drill as in Phase 1, but use the forehand throw.
- Focus on using the wrist for spin, not the arm.
- Encourage flat throws after achieving sufficient spin.
Coaching points:
- Keep pivot foot on the ground.
- Ensure the throw moves in a straight line toward the receiver.
- Add spin by snapping the wrist to reduce wobble.
- For FH Throws, expect initial struggle; mastery takes weeks/months.
- For FH, keep the lower arm low and the wrist pointing upward at release to achieve a flat flight. Maintain sideward step-out and keep pivot foot grounded.
Progression/Regression:
As the participants get comfortable with BH & FH basic, practice different variations based on differnt projectile, release and distance.
