Skills Focussed: Having fun
Concepts to know before doing the drill: Rules of Ultimate
Drill Focus: Improve reaction speed, quick throws, and creativity in throwing techniques through a fast-paced, fun game.
Set-up:
- Field: 8m wide × 12m playing field + 4m endzones.
- Teams: 3 vs 3.
- Equipment: Cones to mark field, one disc per field.
- Players: Short duration → 1 field per 8 players. Longer duration (>10 min) → 1 field per 10–12 players.
Rules:
- Only one pull at the start, and it must be upside down.
- Scoring team stays on offense and immediately attacks the opposite endzone.
- Points: Score = +1 point. Turnover = –1 point. Game end: First team to reach +3 points wins. Team that reaches –2 points loses.
- Next game: Winning team stays. Losing team rotates off; first 3 players to opposite endzone form new opponents.
- Stall count is 6.
Coaching point:
- Encourage quick decision-making and fast throws.
- Allow players to try creative throws (overheads, push passes, experimental techniques).
- For beginners, remove the –1 point for turnover rule to keep games flowing.
