Setplay for when the endzone offense is stalled and throwing directly into the endzone is too risky
Set-up:
Use a full-size endzone (18 × 37 meters) if space allows.
Players: Handler A (thrower) with a marker 5–10 m outside the endzone. Handler B (dump) with a defender on the open side. Optional: imaginary cutter upfield to simulate initial look.
Drill-Flow:
Handler A looks upfield first (simulate stall count).
At stall 3, A realizes the cut is not open and dumps to B (pass 1).
Immediately after releasing the disc, A sprints upfield toward the open-side corner of the endzone.
Handler B throws a floaty leading pass (pass 2) for A to catch in stride for the score.
Rotate:A → becomes B. B → becomes new A
After 4 reps each, switch offense and defense roles.
Coaching Points:
Run immediately after throwing; do not watch your dump pass.
Pass 2 should be floaty and leading, allowing the receiver to attack it at speed.
Encourage quick timing and explosive cuts from the original thrower.
Remind defenders to apply light pressure initially, increasing difficulty as players improve.
Progression/Regression:
Train players to start their cut motion during their dump throw: Easier with backhand. Harder with forehand, but great for advanced players. On a force forehand, encourage using either a forehand release while cutting or even a left-handed backhand.
